The Cause
Approximately 50% of men (1 in every 2), 33% of women (1 in every 3), and 12.5% of children (1 in every 8) are expected to get cancer in their lifetime. In fact, cancer is the second highest cause of death globally, just behind heart disease.
The World Health Organization states:
“The cancer burden continues to grow globally, exerting tremendous physical, emotional, and financial strain on individuals, families, communities, and health systems. Many health systems in low- and middle-income countries are least prepared to manage this burden, and many cancer patients globally do not have access to timely quality diagnosis and treatment.”
These vulnerable populations need help now. Our Polygon Alliance community heard the call and we responded with compassion and a drive to enact the change we want to see in the world.
The Charity
Fuck Cancer is a 501c3 nonprofit organization founded by Yael Cohen Braun and Julie Greenbaum. They both lost loved ones to the disease. FCancer is committed to providing awareness and education about cancer prevention while supporting cancer patients in their most difficult periods.
The Polygon Alliance
Polygon Alliance is a community of dedicated educators, collaborators, and supporters in the DeFi Space. Together, we have raised awareness and funds to help fight a disease that has touched many of us personally.
Artists across the globe have come together to create something beautiful out of an ugly situation - tokens inspired by real-life experiences with cancer that will live eternally in Memoriam on the Polygon Blockchain.
The Event
Polygon Alliance has partnered with FCancer to host an NFT Charity auction on Spatial.io. With 85 unique and custom one-of-one pieces, more than sixty artists, and 100% of proceeds being donated to the FCancerNow foundation, this is the largest charity event hosted by Polygon Alliance to date. Prior to the start of bidding, our sponsors donated .578 ETH (971 USD).
Many of the NFTs hold deep meaning for their creators, and they have expressed this in the descriptions and on Twitter Spaces. The passion of the artists to raise awareness of the FCancer Charity has made the auction a highly anticipated community event.
All proceeds and future sale royalties resulting from this auction will benefit the FCancerNow foundation. Bidding closes on Thursday, June 16th. The Gallery will remain in Spatial for the foreseeable future and all art will remain on display, open for all to see. If you want to view the space, the art, or make a bid, I got you.
